5 Reasons Why God Wants You To Be Rich

Controversial first article, I know. I don’t care. I have become convinced after talking to many people about money that the number one stumbling block people have is feeling as though it is simply “wrong” for them to have a lot of money, or to work very little for the money they have. Call it whatever you want- it all boils down to the same thing. God, morals, feeling like you deserve it, feeling as though you’re “cursed”, feeling like you must work yourself to the bone to live up to the “work ethic” your parents instilled in you… what it comes down to is approval from a higher power. For some people, that higher power is simply a set of ethics and beliefs. For others, it’s living up to what the people in their lives expect. And for a lot of us, it’s a tie to “God”, in whatever form we believe in God.
Don’t be turned off by the word “God.” Regardless of if you believe, this article applies to you. If “God” doesn’t apply to you, read it with an open mind, and in the end you’ll see that you can replace “God” with another concept that’s holding you back.
I’m not a religious person, so you won’t find any quoting of scripture here- but I do believe in something greater than just what we see on the surface as we go about the day-to-day. What I can tell you for sure is that as you begin to break free of the limiting thoughts you have about money- which almost always results in an immediate influx of it- you start to experience an excitement and positive forward drive that no one could mistake as being “Wrong” or “evil.” Here is why that happens, and why God, the universe, or whatever else you answer to at the end of the day, all want you to be rich.
1. To live the fullest life possible, you have to have money. Don’t flame me and tell me how it’s possible to live a great life without money. I know that. We have all seen examples of wonderful people leading lives they can be proud of without money. But think what good those people could have done if they had had the means to do more with their lives. I said “the fullest life possible.” If you aren’t a believer in God, you can almost certainly agree with this even more. If you believe this is your one chance through this place, don’t you think it’s your birthright to get and use as much money as you can? You’ve got talents, desires, and drives which can only be developed by having more money.
If you do believe in God, then you probably believe that God made you in his image and is seeking expression through you constantly. What better way to glorify God than by having the means to experience amazing places, to enjoy the best things you can buy, and to have the peace of mind that comes with having a couple of bucks in the bank?
I’m by no means saying you should screw someone over to get it, or be cold-hearted in your dealings with people in business. It usually turns out to be quite the opposite. The more of it you get, the better able you are to live a moral lifestyle, free of the desperation brought on by the human survival instinct.
2. God does not think you’re “greedy” for wanting money. Greed is brought on by personality traits, not by the desire for money. Greed consists of 2 elements (which at their heart, are motivated by the same thing): fear (of not having enough to survive), and ego gratification (wanting to have more than the next guy). The first is natural enough, but will be overcome quite easily when you see how easy money comes to you when you’re in the right frame of mind. The second- ego gratification– is a problem. If that’s your driving force in life, you will almost definitely stay poor until you reassess your priorities. People who can get rich to satisfy their egos are already rich. Sorry buddy, that’s not you.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to have more money. When that desire is oriented properly (not driven by ego or fear), it stems from wanting a richer, fuller, and more abundant life for yourself and those around you. There is nothing more natural than that. If you believe in God, you can’t deny that that urge is God-given. God wants that for you.
3. God wants you to be a good parent, spouse, child, etc. Again, don’t flame me and tell me that you can be a good parent, etc. without having money and about how you were raised by a single mom that worked seven jobs so that she could put you through school and how can I insult your momma like that. Of course you can be a good parent, child, spouse without having a lot of money. However, again, I think you’ll agree with me when I say that it would have been wonderful for your momma if she didn’t have to work seven jobs. You, with your current awareness level, which I know is above average because you’re even reading this article right now, will be a better parent, spouse, child, etc. if you become rich. You have been brought to what you are reading right now by a chain of events that is no accident. What I’m telling you is: for you, having money will free you to become a better person. A more available parent, a less burdensome child, a happier, less stressed-out spouse. God wants that! Don’t tell me he doesn’t. You can better serve God when you’re not a bitching, moaning, worrying, frazzled mess.
We feel the best, the happiest, when we are able to provide for the people we love- emotionally, physically, and financially. Money is the means to providing that. God wants that for you.
4. Being rich brings you in alignment with God.
When you are at peace, in a state of love, joy, excitement, fulfillment, you are closer to God. You are in a God-like state of mind. Isn’t this the goal (the true goal) of religion? To praise God, to feel grateful unto God, and to do unto others? I’m pretty sure there was a pretty successful bracelet-selling campaign a few years back encouraging you to ask yourself what Jesus would do in any given situation to guide your behavior. Well- you’re a lot likelier to act in the way God would want you to act if you’re not driving people off the road because you’re so pissed off that you just overdrew your bank account.
If you’re not a believer in God, then logically your main goals in life are most likely to be comfortable, peaceful, happy. Perhaps to leave the world a better place than you found it. Being in a “God-like” state of mind is probably even MORE important to you. So, as with the last 3 points, this applies to you even more than it does to those whose aim in life is to do God’s work.
5. Regardless of what you’ve done in your past, God thinks you deserve to be rich and happy.
Lastly, and most importantly, it doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past. God forgives you, and if you don’t believe in God, well you better start right now to forgive yourself. Your past is your past. Reading this article is like having a conversation with me, the author, and it is no accident that you are being given the message to let the past go. Life is a series of jumps in levels of consciousness, and when you did things in the past you aren’t proud of, you were operating from a different consciousness level- one that could never truly make you wealthy. Wealth is comprised of more than money, and if you were at a place where you did things you aren’t proud of, even if you had money (because you were stealing it, or because you were a cut-throat, dishonest businessperson, or whatever), you were missing the key mental element to wealth. So let it go. God forgives you. I forgive you. The people you wronged may not forgive you- but if they don’t, it’s because just like you were at the time you wronged them, they are not operating at a high enough consciousness level. You must forgive yourself and let whatever you’ve done in the past GO.
If you can make any part of it right, now or in the future, then by all means do that. However, for many of us, we’re working our guilt backwards. Prospering and being happy would allow us to make amends and correct wrongs from our past, but because we feel so undeserving and guilty thinking about prospering, we stay stuck where we are, unable to move to a place where we can actually do those things. MEMORIZE THE LAST TWO LINES AND DRILL THEM INTO YOUR HEAD WHENEVER YOU FEEL THE SLIGHTEST SENSE OF UNDESERVING.
This is one of many examples of faulty human wiring. We’ll be delving into that topic in great detail in future articles, you can bet on that. The only way to deal with this is to correct the thought/guilt/emotion when it comes up until it becomes habit, and we can move on.
One final thought: if you are CURRENTLY involved in a business that makes you feel this way, you’d better make it your priority to get out of it, and fast.
To move forward and continue to grow and ditch the old ideals of what it means to work and have money, the ideals that are keeping you POOR and MISERABLE, you’ve GOT to completely remove the idea from your mind that God wants you to be poor. There’s nothing noble about not being able to pay for adequate health care for yourself or your family, and watching them suffer because of it. There’s nothing glamorous about an overworked dad coming home and taking out his frustrations on his kids. There’s nothing DIVINE about two people who deeply love each other watching their relationship erode because of constant stress and fighting about money. Sound familiar? That’s not godly. That’s hell.

2. It is a normal, natural, and God-given desire to want money.
